If there’s one thing you need to do right away is to read these tips on how to stop procrastinating and start being productive.
Too many things piling up, do it later? We’ve all been there and there’s a name for it: Procrastination, the silent killer of productivity. You know the deal - making a promise to start that daunting task tomorrow, only to make that same promise again the next day and yups, again and again. Problem with procrastination is that it’s a cycle. And the only way to break out of it lies within you. The good news? It’s possible to do! With a few simple strategies, you can reclaim control of your time and at the same time increase your productivity.
Set Deadlines!
One of the easiest ways to fall into the trap of procrastination is when you don’t set clear goals within a time frame. Without a clear deadline, the tasks tend to linger on our to-do lists for god knows how long! Be realistic with your deadlines, but also make sure to complete the tasks in a timely manner. This simple yet effective strategy helps combat procrastination by providing a clear endpoint for your work.
The 2-Minute Rule
If a task takes only two minutes (or less) to do, do it immediately. This simple step may seem like it’s easy but most of us tend to procrastinate either way. This time, don’t! Because when you implement this particular strategy, you get to avoid simple tasks from piling up and becoming overwhelming. Chances are, once you've completed the two-minute tasks, being productive doesn't seem so hard as it keeps flowing for the next few tasks because you’ve set yourself in motion.
Try Time Blocking
The Pomodoro Technique involves working in short bursts of focused activity followed by short breaks. Set a timer for 25 minutes and work without interruption until the timer rings. Then, take a five-minute break before starting the next Pomodoro cycle. This technique helps maintain focus and prevents burnout. We wrote about it in detail here!
Break Them Down
Large (also intimidating) tasks are the main targets for procrastination. Break them down into smaller, more manageable ones, making them less intense to tackle. Focus on completing one step at a time, celebrating each small victory along the way. By breaking tasks into bite-sized chunks, you'll build not only confidence but also momentum, ultimately overcoming procrastination and achieving your goals.
Reward Yourself
While you’re at it, don't forget to reward yourself for completing tasks and reaching milestones. It could be as simple as a well-deserved break with a cup of coffee. Rewards provide positive reinforcement and motivate you to keep moving forward.
