Becoming Exceptional with GRADUAN®

By Ahmed Wafi

Calling all talent with disabilities (OKU)!

On 27 February 2020, #teamGRADUAN will team up with UKM to bring you a special “Becoming Exceptional” career development programme for students with disabilities (OKU), preparing them for the working world through workshops and other career initiatives as well as connecting them to Malaysia’s best employers via interview and networking sessions. This is part of our commitment to prepare graduates with calibre from all walks of life.

Take Muhammad Firdaus Abu Hassan, Administration Officer at Universiti Malaya, for example. He has been blind since 14 but that didn’t stop him from performing his tasks to the best of his abilities. “At first it was very challenging but I learnt many skills. The important thing is how overcame it. I don’t let my disability restrict me. My principle is even though I’m blind, I’ve been given a responsibility so I have to do it to the best of my ability. I believe we have to accept the work at hand and adapt accordingly. If I encounter any trouble, my boss and colleagues always help me,” shares Firdaus.

His advice? “We carry our disability everywhere we go, and we have to prepare ourselves for the challenges that come by. Getting a job is hard nowadays but like everyone else, we need to take on the struggle and be prepared for it. Be creative and think ahead, have a plan on what you want to do when you graduate. When you have a plan, things get easier.”

If you fit the bill and want to take your career to greater heights, don’t forget to register for our “Becoming Exceptional” programme to meet and network with top Malaysian employers! Register now at graduan.com/nex.
