What does a Career Ambassador at MCMC experience? We get the insider look.

Muhammad Amirul Hafiz Rosly started his career as an intern. Thereafter, he joined Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as the Assistant Director in the Content Regulation Department. His role involved industry regulation, including content enforcement, co-regulation, self-regulation, and user empowerment. Amirul chose MCMC because his ideal career aspiration lies with the organization that governs the communications and multimedia industry.

Amirul has progressed in his career and currently heads the New Media Department whereby he takes accountability in investigating reported incidents across multiple platforms and advising resolution for time-sensitive complaints, which includes community issues.

He believes that agility i.e., being flexible, adaptive, and thinking out of the box provides the fundamentals to perform the role well. Furthermore, a firm understanding, and knowledge of the relevant subject matter and technology landscape are necessary to manage and address the highly diversified challenging issues. This is where he requires ongoing learning, unlearning, and relearning to stay current and relevant for job effectiveness and efficiency. He reaffirms that MCMC provides the avenue for him to learn, apply and share consistently.

His motivation stems from the fact that he works in an ever evolving, fluid and vibrant setting. Every day brings something new to the table which requires an out of the box solution. This keeps him strong. Aside, the role also provides the opportunity to build relationships with respective stakeholders while maintaining a common goal of safe online space for all. Having the chance to make this impact is an immense gratification of all.

There are areas where Amirul finds complex to deal with, especially with "real-world harm" incidents such as self-harm, suicide attempts, and hate speech content resulting in actual violence. He is grateful to have supportive supervisors and teammates who have encouraged and guided him along the way.

MCMC has undoubtedly given Amirul the chance to manage a group of talents who are passionate about what they do. However, complex the job could be, it is always laced with a personal connection, humour, and enjoyment.

His advice to graduates…. four simple dos:

1. Do not underestimate yourself
Have faith in your abilities and make the effort to go above and beyond what is required because you never know what abilities you may possess or unleash.

2. Humility and respect are important
Always be humble and respectful to the people you meet because there is always a lot more to learn. Trust and respect are not given easily - you must earn them through your actions.

3. Be up for the challenge
Never be afraid to take a new route if it leads to better results.

4. Believe in Rizq
Rizq does not only refer to the wealth God blesses you with. It is also the health, family, company, teammates, knowledge, skills, intelligence and more which He provides you with. Be grateful to Him for all He has bestowed upon you.
