A specialised graduate programme called Junior Relationship Manager (JRM) is designed to hasten new graduates' transition into professional bankers within the first two years of the programme.
“When you join CIMB as a Junior Relationship Manager (JRM), you'll receive one-on-one coaching while also developing your banking expertise through numerous trainings,” says Ronald Tang Wei Lun, Junior Relationship Manager (JRM), CIMB Bank Berhad. We interviewed Ronald on his experience and accomplishments throughout his time working for one of the biggest banks in Malaysia.
As a JRM, Ronald’s responsibilities includes actively acquiring New-to-Bank (NTB), New-to-Preferred (NTP) & Preferred Win-Back customers which could consist of High Net Worth individuals, offering NTB and NTP customers quick and practical off-site banking services, and promoting the bank's other products and services. In short, he plays a key role to understand the needs of our High Net Worth clients, and provide them with the best services and products catered to their needs.
As one of the top sales contributors nationwide, this INTI International University graduate in business finance was awarded the title of Champion Challenge in 2020 after outpacing other JRMs in Malaysia in terms of sales contribution. “I would always seek assistance in product knowledge and tips on how to deal with customers. I have to thank my Branch Manager and the Investment Specialist team for supporting me and providing me with guidance,” expressed Ronald.
It is well known that the banking sector is a fast-paced, high-demand environment. To advance in one's work, real-life experience is just as crucial as theoretical instruction. This position offers thorough training as well as a wide range of licences and certifications to quickly polish candidates as all-around bankers. “As a JRM, time management is very important. In order to meet both our sales goal and the deadline for document submission, we must plan and schedule our work well,” explained Roland.
In the next three years, Ronald aims to explore different roles such as a branch manager or an investment specialist to strengthen his expertise in the banking industry. Some word of advice to today’s youth from Ronald are to like what you do, not to do what you like. It is also equally important to not hesitate to raise your queries to your supervisor. Ronald added, “I feel fortunate that CIMB as an organisation places a serious emphasis on career development, which is aligned with my career aspirations.”
