A Great Working Environment with Even Greater Opportunities

By Mel Sim

Working at the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) ensures you are constantly in a learning and development environment with all the right support and motivation to excel.

When you hear of a job opportunity at the SC, you just know that it will come with splendid opportunities to learn from the best. What if we told you there’s more? Guided by its values (Accountable, Proactive, Inclusive, Committed), the SC recognises that the quality of its talent is key to developing and regulating a complex and dynamic industry. Hence why at the SC, employees can expect invaluable experiences in capital market regulations, first-hand responsibilities in working with subject matter experts, and a network of colleagues vital in gaining a wealth of capital market knowledge and skills.

The organisation takes pride in its conducive learning environment, recognising that learning is a competitive advantage and that it is its commitment to help its talent reach their full potential. So when you work at the SC, you can expect continuous development supported by challenging work assignments and various learning programmes that will equip you to keep up with the market and build your careers. And to keep up with the new normal, there will be various modes of learning available from e-learning to face-to-face learning and even a mentoring programme. That’s not all – scholarships, placements, financial assistance as well as study and computer loans are also available to its talent, encouraging them to take charge of their own learning.

It's not just the actual learning and upskilling that will help you advance in your career at the SC. Nurturing its talent is also one of the organisation’s KPIs whereby career opportunities are aplenty while exposure to gain experience in various departments is always there so you can climb the corporate ladder. Once in the SC, you can expect job rotations to enhance your knowledge, skills and competencies.

There’s also a comprehensive succession planning to ensure that those with potential are groomed to be the SC’s next-generation leaders. After all, at the SC you will be working in a respected, high-profile public agency that looks after public interest and therefore should receive only the best in terms of career guidance and opportunities so you can have a more meaningful career that will influence the integrity and orderly development of the Malaysian capital market.

All this and you get to work in a state-of-the-art building amid the lush greenery of Bukit Kiara with a host of great office facilities such as a modern in-house cafeteria, gym, multi-purpose sports hall, prayer rooms, creche support for young children, recreational club, and shuttle pick-up and drop off between the SC and the Semantan MRT Station. Oh and also a flexible work arrangement essential given the new norms of Covid-19 and to accommodate and facilitate the SC's employees in achieving work-life balance.

Be Part of a Dynamic and Progressive Organisation

Pretty much what you’re looking for in an employer, right? You bet! But not everyone gets to join the SC, which is understandable because of the work it does. However, there are several ways you can get a foot in, starting with its internship programme that is offered all year round in different departments. Once in as an intern, you will get ample support and guidance to learn new knowledge to complement the theoretical lessons you have acquired back in university.

Fresh graduates interested to fully immerse themselves in the SC’s role of nation-building in the capital market can apply for the Graduate Management Executive Programme (GME), which takes in candidates every October. As a GME, you can benefit from a holistic understanding of the SC’s regulatory functions and mandates as you will undergo two rotations to different departments for a duration of six months each.

At the end of your GME Programme, you will be absorbed permanently into a department best suited for you as Senior Executives. If you’re after intellectually stimulating challenges and want to be inspired to develop technical knowledge, leadership values, teamwork and interpersonal skills through hands-on experience, this is for you. Meanwhile experienced hire with work experience in Accounting & Finance, Economics, Law & Public Policy, Data Science & Analytics, Technology, Cybersecurity and Behavioural Finance are often sought after by the SC.
