Everything you need to know about Movember

The manliest month of the year

As the year comes to a close, men around the world choose to grow a moustache and save it for the whole month of November to raise awareness for a number of men’s health issues.

It all began in 2003 when Travis Garrone and Luke Slattery met up for a drink and the idea for Movember was born. The pair convinced 30 of their friends to join in and 16 years on, 30 moustaches have grown to five million.

The Movember Foundation placed 49th in the top 500 NGOs around the world and has received official participation from over 20 nations. At its official website, the first thing you’ll read is their objective: Raising funds and awareness to tackle prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

Yep, we’re fighting it all.

What about No-shave November? No, it’s not the same thing. The main difference is that Movember is an exclusive moustache-only movement. No-shave November encourages putting down the razor and letting your hair grow wild and free, using the money you’d typically spend on grooming to donate to cancer awareness where patients normally lose their hair to chemotherapy.

YOU WANT MO’?

  • Sign up to be Mo Bro and begin the month with a shaved face
  • For the entire month, each Mo Bro must grow a moustache and groom it (no beards!)
  • Use the moustache to create conversation and gain funds for mental health
  • Conduct yourself like a true gentleman

Can’t grow a mo? That’s perfectly alright, encourage the people around your life to join the movement!
