Dazzle Up Your Workspace!

Go a little extra to make work a bit more vibrant and fun.

Sitting for eight hours (or more!) in the office can be extremely exhausting. And when you’re doing this in a dull workspace, it won’t exactly make you feel inspired. A quick tip? Personalise your workspace! This way, it feels more like you and is comfortable to be from Monday to Friday. Here are some ideas.

1. Declutter. Then declutter some more
Look around your table, do you need every single thing on it? Or are they just stuff you never bothered to tidy up? A cluttered workspace can be distracting, making it difficult to focus. Clutter also creates a sense of chaos and overwhelm, which can contribute to feelings of stress and anxiety.

Start by removing unnecessary items. Get rid of paperwork you no longer need (or file them in organisers). Keep your stationery to a bare minimum (you don’t really need 10 pens now, do you?). Then, declutter again to really clear your workspace of the mess. Once you’ve cleared your table, wipe everything down. A dusty workspace is the worst thing ever and clutter can be a breeding ground for dust, allergens and germs that can have negative impacts on your health. Arrange only the things you need in a neat manner. Thank us when your productivity level gets a boost!

2. Add your favourite colour
This is a great way to personalise your workspace. Seeing your favourite colour can stimulate positive emotions and uplift your mood, which can help you feel happier and more motivated to work. You will also feel more connected to your workplace and inspired to do your tasks. Purchase stationery and notebooks in your favourite colour. You may also use peripherals such as keyboard and mouse in the same colour.

Or try a colour that can help boost creativity. Certain colours such as blue and green are associated with increased creativity and can help you generate more innovative ideas.

3. Put pictures around your workplace
By surrounding yourself with images of your loved ones, you can create a more comfortable and familiar space. They can be a source of inspiration and motivation as they remind you of your goals and aspirations. Besides pictures, you can also hang art prints around your workspace to stimulate creativity and imagination. Images that are visually appealing or thought provoking can spark new ideas and approaches to your work.

4. Make your workspace comfortable for working long hours
Invest in tools to help make your workspace more comfortable - lumbar support, standees for your laptop so it is at eye level, footrest to avoid discomfort or strain during long hours of sitting. If your office is cold, consider bringing a comfy sweater to work. Dress comfortably too as it allows for a full range of motion unlike clothing that is too tight. Don’t forget shoes! If your office allows it, bring in a pair of slippers that you can easily slip in and out of.

5. Organise those wires
Computer, laptop, mobile phone and tablet… no wonder it’s a mess on your table with the wires! Having cable management is important for safety, efficiency and durability as loose cables and wires can pose a safety hazard. Not to mention time consuming and frustrating when you have to constantly deal with tangled cables!

Shop online for cable organisers - you’ll be spoilt for choice. Keep it to a minimum - some gadgets can share cables so this way you don’t have to clutter up the desk with wires.

6. DIY “snack drawer”
Feeling the midday hunger pang? Snack drawer to the rescue! Store some snacks in a drawer so you can easily reach out to them when you need a quick energy boost. Eating small bites throughout the day can help maintain blood sugar levels, improve cognitive function, and increase productivity.

Opt for healthy snacks like nuts, fruits or granola bars. You don’t want to snack too often on unhealthy options! Also, make sure you keep the drawer clean and get rid of any crumbs or unopened bags of snacks. Last thing you want is a roach infestation!
