Ace Your First Interview At The Malaysian Career Fair 2024

By Hannah Dania

Happening THIS WEEKEND!

The Malaysian Career Fair is set to kickstart your career journey this weekend, from 1st to 3rd of March 2024 at The Royal Lancaster London and you don’t want to miss it. If you’ve already registered, that means it’s time to get ready for your first interview because you might just land one on-the-spot! But hey, don't fret. With a bit of preparation and a pocket full of confidence, you’ll be walking into that interview room like a pro. Here are five tips and tricks to help you nail that first interview and land that dream job.

Do Your Homework (No, Not Maths)
Before you step foot into that room, make sure you’ve done your research. Dive into the company’s website, stalk social media pages (yes, stalk), and read up on recent news articles about said company. Knowing the company’s history, values, and recent projects not only shows your interest but also gives you valuable points to talk about during the interview.

Dress to Impress (But Don't Overdo It)
They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but let’s face it - first impressions matter. Dressing appropriately shows respect for the company and the interviewer. However, that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank on designer suits or dresses. Opt for a clean, professional attire that fits the company outlook. Don’t forget to throw on that smile of yours, it's your best accessory!

Practice Makes Perfect
Practise, practise, practise! Most interview questions are quite common so try and practise those with a friend, family member, or even in front of a mirror. Pay attention to your body language, tone of voice, and overall demeanour. You want to come across as confident and speak without sounding rehearsed or AI-generated. Don’t forget to prepare a few questions of your own to ask the interviewer to show that you’re genuinely interested in the position and the company.

Turn Your Weaknesses into Strengths
We’ve all heard the classic “What’s your weakness?” question. Instead of giving a cliché answer like “I’m a perfectionist”, be genuine and self-aware. Acknowledge a real weakness but pivot to how you’ve actively worked to overcome it or how it has helped you grow. It shows maturity, self-reflection, and a willingness to learn and improve.

Stay Cool, Calm, and Collected
Easier said than done, right? But remember, the interviewer is human too. Take a deep breath, relax your mind, and remember that you’ve got this! Maintain eye contact, speak clearly and confidently, and don’t be afraid to take a moment to gather your thoughts before answering a question. And if you feel yourself starting to panic, just picture the interviewer as your friend who’s asking the question. Just be yourself and let your awesome personality shine through!

Now you’re all set to conquer the Malaysian Career Fair and land that dream job! If you haven’t registered yet, do it right now at graduan.com/uk and we will see you there 🎉
