My field of study isn't a show-stopper!
Before joining Roche as a Travel & Expense (T&E) Associate (Japanese speaker), I was in the engineering field. I was unsure at first whether it was a good decision to leave my field of study.

Starting from scratch in an unfamiliar area, I discovered that I enjoyed learning new things and taking on new challenges. One of my accomplishments was starting in July 2020 and being promoted to T&E System Analyst in September 2021. This is not a flex; rather, it emphasizes how Roche provides numerous opportunities for us to grow and advance in our careers. So, do I regret leaving my previous field and joining Roche? My response is a definite 'NO' 😊

My advice to today's youth is to embrace challenges because they will help you grow and improve, just as they did for me!

Embrace challenges for self-progression!
I was never an exceptional student, but I always aspired to make a significant contribution to society. So here I am today at Roche, contributing to our purpose of "doing now what patients need next". In September 2019, I stepped in as an intern in the Solution center (Sales & Commercial team). At that point, I had very little idea what it was like to work in a top biotech company like Roche. What captivated me most was the unique culture that enabled people to thrive. I gained invaluable experience during my internship, and when I was offered a permanent role, it was a dream come true! I took on an IT business analyst role, which allowed me to hone my project management skills. I enjoyed the support and encouragement from my manager, as well as great co-workers who assisted me throughout my journey. This in return, has inspired me to do the same for others.

My advice to today’s youth is think outside the box and never give up!

Pushing boundaries while learning and unlearning!
Embarking into my third year at RSS APAC, and all I can say is that it's been an incredible journey. A journey which built my resilience, curiosity and reinforced the importance of learning and unlearning. I began my career as a young and energetic Recruiter at Roche and spent the majority of my career there, and upon reflecting, I realized that I wanted to gain exposure and grow in different areas of People & Culture. I was then offered the position of Operational Advisor in People Support Solutions. It was a truly rewarding experience, in which I was exposed to multiple countries across APAC, assisted with transformation support, process improvement and consultation on complex requests. I wake up every day knowing that I am making a difference at work!

My advice to young talents, don’t be afraid to step into the unknown, as that’s where the best of growth and learning takes place!

Joined for advancement, stayed for purpose!
Being at Roche has been a game changer for me over the last 6 years, as I have grown both professionally and personally. From being the first person in the People & Culture Team in Roche as a Senior HR Executive to my current role as Strategy & Transformation Lead - People Strategy Implementation.

I admit, it was not a bed of roses. Starting from scratch entailed making mistakes, learning lessons, and venturing into uncharted territory. I'm grateful for these experiences because they taught me to be resilient, to have the courage to accept not knowing everything, and to be passionate about innovative solutions.

Surrounded by leaders who coached and empowered me as well as colleagues who provided a psychological safe space to speak up, I was able to continue to develop my skills, my confidence and most importantly my values
