3 Easy Ways to be More Eco-Friendly

Let’s start at the office!

2020 has been a rollercoaster of a year, but if there is one thing we can take away from it is that we should be more responsible of our community, as well as our environment.

One easy way to start is on the eco-friendly trend, which has been gaining traction over years now. There are so many little things you can do to reduce your environmental impact. And the best part – you don’t have to make huge gestures to show your dedication and care for the environment. All you have to do is be mindful of your actions and the consequences that follow. Baby steps can go a long way, especially if everyone does their part! Try starting at the office since we spend most of our time there. Here are some ideas to get you on the roll.

Go Paperless!
Did you know that almost half of all printouts end up in bins by the end of the day? Which is why the greenest paper is no paper at all! Start using electronic documents more often, which is more convenient. Your files are easier to find on your computer, you can share them with your team with just a few clicks, and you can customise your documents as you please.

Think twice before hitting print. Do you really need to print a meeting agenda for every person in the room? How about posting it online instead for your team mates to review? Once it’s finalised, you can send e-copies and use a tablet for your presentation.

Lower Your Energy Usage
This may seem impossible if we all insist on having our A/C blasted at 23 degrees at all times. The least you can do is switch it off, along with the lights and fans, at the end of the day. Shut down your computer too, and that includes lunch hours when you’re not using it. It may seem like a small step but it’ll count!

Here’s another tip: Use natural light. Work near a window so you get some sunlight and vitamin D. Want to get your colleagues involved? Every time someone forgets to switch off their computer or switches, they’ll have to put some money in the Green Jar, which you can then donate to an environmental fund.

Encourage Green Commuting
Commuting can be stressful. There are traffic jams during rush hour, car troubles to worry about, feeling stressed when you’re driving to work every morning in traffic.

Green commuting can help solve these issues, as well as the environment. Short of buying a hybrid car, there are many ways to make your commute more eco-friendly to reduce your carbon footprint. For starters, you can take advantage of our city’s public transportation to get to and from the office, or gang up with some friends at work to carpool. If your office is nearby, consider biking. Do some research on what your sustainable options are depending on your situation. Not only will it save the environment and you some petrol money, it’s a great way to get in some early-morning exercise.
