No harm in getting the hottest tech tool to help you land your next job.
Job interviews can be nerve-wracking, even if it isn’t the first time you’re going for one! The trick to a successful one is to always come prepared with thoughtful answers as well as knowing what other unexpected questions that may come up.
What’s the best way to prepare yourself for this? Well, enter ChatGPT. In case you haven’t heard (where have you been!), ChatGPT has been gaining traction for the benefits you can gain in a variety of situations – it can help you outline a speech, do research for you, write a short introduction in your cover letter, and yes, even help you prepare for a job interview.
You know the whole advice about going through a mock interview with a friend? Well, ChatGPT can be that friend for you. How it works is through prompts, which basically is the series of questions you type in and send to the chatbot to start a “conversation”. To get the right answer (or one that’s remotely close to what you need), you need to master the art and science of crafting a prompt to get ChatGPT to do exactly what you want it to do. Unlike a friend, it doesn’t know how to read the situation or your mind. If you don’t ask it the right prompt, you won’t get the right answer. In other words, you’re not feeding the chatbot with enough information to go off of. You can read more about how useful ChatGPT is in a previous article and how you can use it to help you prepare for a job interview.
Our focus now? How to ask the right prompts to give you the answers you need. Check these out. Feel free to customize based on your specific needs and the role you are interviewing for!
If you want it to perform as a mock interviewer:
“Act as an interviewer and ask me questions for a marketing manager role. Evaluate my answers and provide suggestions for improvement.”
“Ask me some challenging questions about the industry and my role as well as provide feedback on my response.”
If you want to research the company and role:
“What are some important qualities a software engineer needs for today’s work environment?”
“How can I effectively answer whether I have the right skills for the role of a software engineer at Company X?”
“Can you tell me more about Company X’s recent achievements in the field of engineering?”
If you need some industry insights:
“What are some emerging trends in the e-commerce industry?”
“What skills should one have to excel in today’s e-commerce industry?”
“How should I answer if asked how I can contribute to today’s demands of the e-commerce industry?”
“Are there any keywords I should include in my interview answer that would show that I am on top of the latest trends in the e-commerce industry?”
If you want to review your resume:
“Please review my resume and suggest improvements to better align my study and work experiences for the role of a marketing manager.”
“Can you spot any repetitive information or grammatical errors in my resume?”
“How can I better word my experiences so I can align them with the current trends and needs of the e-commerce industry?”
If you want to know what questions you should ask during the interview:
“Help me generate a list of thoughtful questions to ask during the interview about the company culture.”
“What are some good questions to ask about career growth opportunities?”
“How can I ask about how much I will be paid and my benefits without being too blatant?”
If you need help handling difficult questions:
“How do I respond to the question about a challenging work situation I successfully overcame? This is what happened and I would like to craft my answer to showcase my attention to detail and team work proceed to share your story”
“How do I address a question about a gap in my employment history? I decided to take a year off between work to travel and I want to showcase that it not only provided me with a new outlook in life but also helped me prepare mentally better for my next challenge in life.”
If you want some feedback on a mock interview with ChatGPT:
“Provide me feedback on how I did in our mock interview. Where do you think I can improve?”
“Let’s discuss what else I can highlight to strengthen my case based on our mock interview.”
