There’s still time to build on that successful career.
We’ve now into Q4 of 2024, which means four more months before we bid farewell to the year! While you let that sink in, here’s something else to consider – how much time you have left to make your career stellar for the year! If you’ve been consistently hitting your career goals, kudos to you. But still feel like there’s more you can do to end 2024 on a high?
That’s what we are here for with our list of highly recommended work habits completely worth adopting still for 2024. Not only can good work habits help you become more productive, they also help you achieve a greater sense of satisfaction, which is what we all want to achieve by the time 2025 rolls in. They are success drivers that help boost your reliability and teamwork, making work more worthwhile and meaningful.
If you still want to make 2024 your year when it comes to your career success, check out these five positive work habits we say you need to do right now:
#1 Be punctual!
Something many of us often take for granted: Arriving to work on time! It’s no brainer that this is a good work habit that needs to go up our list of must-dos. Plus, nothing drives a boss crazier than you being constantly late for the job. Being tardy doesn’t just mean you can’t keep track of time; it points to you being unreliable and completely in disregard of other people’s time and priority. We’re not just talking about arriving to work on time; we’re also talking about getting to meetings on time and handing in your work according to the deadlines. Besides, when you are consistently punctual for all the things that matter, you set the tone for being on track and on top of your career. Now this is one habit that will drive you to the finish line with your head up high if you consistently hit it!
#2 Take criticism well
It’s human nature to feel disheartened, angry sometimes, when our work is criticised. Especially if it is work that you’ve been working on for so long, so hard at! Here’s how we think you can approach this: Treat the person who is giving you feedback as a career coach. Valuable advice from your boss that comes for free should be appreciated. Learn how to depersonalise the feedback; instead, let it help you focus on becoming a better version of yourself. Continue doing this till the end of the year and we’re willing to bet you’ll learn a lot about yourself that will come in handy for self-improvement.
#3 Ask the right questions
Questions are good – only if you get answers that help you be better. For this to happen, you need to think of how to ask for help when needed and the kind of questions that facilitate discussions which can benefit everyone. If you are working for a highly experienced boss, this is a great opportunity to tap into valuable knowledge. Don’t waste this chance to learn firsthand!
#4 Use your energy effectively
Nobody – we repeat – nobody is efficient from 9 to whatever time you finish work. We all have segments during the day where we are more productive. Learning how to identify this will help you accomplish more with better quality work. If you haven’t, it’s time to identify your productive zones and use them to your advantage. The key outcome is to be proactive and create a work routine that works best for you to achieve the results you desire.
#5 Do work that really matters!
Many times, we just do without realising why. Before the year ends, why not make it a focus to get rid of unnecessary tasks (we coin these time wasters) and focus on work that means something to you instead so you can devote passion to derive the outcome you want. Don’t be afraid to approach your boss and let her know that you’re more interested in Task A than Task B as you feel like you have more to offer for the former. Being a specialist is a great way to focus on that one thing you’re really good at instead of dabbling in a whole bunch of other things you’ll only be mediocre at.
